TRAVEL PERMIT UPDATES AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Important Update!

Is it safe to travel on AP/Travel Permit right now?

It is not safe. We do not recommend traveling internationally under any circumstances at this time due to the recent increase in reentry denials nationwide. Traveling currently presents an extremely high risk, even for individuals with an approved travel permit. The level of risk has reached its highest point under the current administration, and it is not safe to travel internationally.

Important Information About the Risks of Traveling

As attorneys, we want you to know that, at this time, the risk of traveling outside the United States with your Advance Parole travel document is extremely high. The entire legal community has noticed an unusual increase in reentry denials to the United States, even for individuals with pending humanitarian cases without a negative immigration history. Many people have been denied entry based on how they answered questions about their cases, but the reason is not always the same and could change at any time.

If, despite these recommendations, you believe you must travel abroad due to an emergency, make sure to carefully reread your entire case declaration before leaving the country, and always have your immigration documents with you. Immigration officers want to confirm that you understand your case and that the statements in your declaration are true. If your answers suggest that you do not understand your case or that you do not qualify, the risk of being denied reentry is significantly higher.

Travel Permit Processing Updates

Travel Permit Delays

Under the current administration, travel permits are frequently issued separately from work permits, often arriving weeks or months later, and are now typically issued as paper documents rather than cards.

Final Recommendations

We understand that many people look forward to receiving their travel permit so they can visit their family members and home countries. Unfortunately, traveling abroad under the current administration is not safe. The risk of being denied reentry is too high, and this could limit your future immigration options and result in additional consequences. Based on the recent increase in denied reentry cases, including individuals with approved travel permits, we recommend that you do not travel internationally until further notice.
